March Umbrella Skill Focus:  Kindness

http://umbrellaproject.co/project/kindness-parent-newsletter/

Kindness is one of the easier skills to understand and make part of our daily lives.  Even a genuine smile counts!  Doing good is not only beneficial for the person on the receiving end and those who witness the kind action, but also for the givers of kindness.  When we are kind and intentionally perform acts of kindness, we get a boost in our own wellbeing and happiness.  It feels good to help others and it helps us focus on the positive things in our lives.  It’s a win-win!  This month we are going to add some complexity to kindness for our children, increasing their care for others but also helping them recognize the benefits they get from being kind and then actively looking for changes to use this skill more often.  Look for Kindness bracelets making their way into our community – bracelets are earned via drawn names weekly from kindness nominations awarded from Staff.

Kindness Tip #1:  Show your kids that kindness isn’t within someone else’s control.

FITGO Activities All Week
FITGO is a fun, interactive Healthy Schools activity for individual students and classrooms. The aim to complete full cards in all healthy living categories within a week. This is a great opportunity to enjoy healthy activities at home and at school!  Congratulations to our students for their demonstration of these healthy skills!

Our Nutrition for Learning program is underway but relies on parent volunteers to deliver the food to students in the morning.  We are looking for more parent volunteers so that this program can resume daily services – it takes less than half an hour to help out.  Please contact Jacqueline Wettlaufer if you can lend a hand.

We have 30 students from across 4 grades involved in our eco-schools winter activities.  Students are meeting twice per week to help ensure our community is recycling properly in order to minimize our waste production.

Mark Thursday, March 28th on your calendar for our Spring movie night!
